We're taking bets that...
* you don't get much funnier than Tina Fey impersonating Sarah Palin.
* some people will do anything to save their pets.
* you gotta love the fact that people punch sharks because of Dane Cook.
* the Steelers got real lucky last night.
* the bailout seems like a lot of money to save rich people.
* Jon Lester will pitch the Red Sox to a game one victory.
* this is a government project that I can approve.
* it is great to see Chuck back and as awesome as ever.
* the Twins/White Sox game will be exciting, but neither team will beat the Rays.
* getting stabbed could save your life.
* sometimes people deserve a second chance but most people won't give it to them.
* you don't want to take a fitness test that even dolphins can't pass.
* fat dolphins is something I never thought I would ever hear about.
* I am booking my next vacation to New Zealand.

We're taking bets that he was more than just salad dressing...
Paul Newman died today. He was one of my all-time favorite actors. He had a charisma about him that was truly incredible. He married the love of his life and was with her over 50 years until he died. He did more for children and other humanitarian efforts than anyone will ever realize. Here are the ten movies of his movies you should see: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke, Nobody's Fool, Hud, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Sting, The Color of Money, Slap Shot, The Verdict. As for me I am going to miss his cool personality and his great voice.

We're taking bets that sometimes people go too far at football games...
This past Friday I went to the UCONN/Baylor Football game with my father and brother. My brother and I have season tickets and we are pretty familiar with the people around us. It was a very close game and the Huskies didn't play so well, but they won in the end.
During the very exciting fourth quarter there was a pretty sketchy call made by the referees against the Huskies. The gentleman(I use the term loosely) behind me was with a friend and his two children. I had not seen him before. Well he lost his mind and started screaming that the Referee was "on the take." Now that hasn't been said since the 1920's so I thought that was funny. The play was then reviewed by the replay judge. The referee came on the speakers and said the call was still not overturned. I guy behind me then said the most awful thing I have ever heard at a sporting event.
"I will find you after and kill you in front of your friends and family that love you."
I was absolutely blown away by this comment. I looked at the guy like he was crazy and my brother asked for clarification on what he said. Now my job is to confront 18 to 22 year olds on behavior and educate them on how to behave around others. When they use statements such as "gay" to mean "stupid" or the term retarded for anything I say something. If one of my students said something as awful as this I would go up one side of them and down the other. Of course this was at a public event and was it my business? So I sat and stewed for a little bit until Mr. Offensive said to his friend loudly, "I am speechless." I lost it and turned to him and said...
"Speechless? Obviously NOT because you just said the most awful thing that I have ever heard a human being say at a sporting event. I hope these are not your children because that was disgusting. Who in their right mind says that? That was awful."
I turned around to watch the next play, but I realized I wasn't done. I then said...
"I cannot believe you actually said that." He then said, "I think we get your point." Which I then replied to him, "I don't think so because most human beings would have apologized to me and the people around you. You haven't even said you are sorry for the horrible thing you said. You are not even fit to be called a human being."
I might have gone a little overboard, but I felt it needed to be said. I still can't believe I heard another person say that and it wasn't on the TV show 24. What do you all think?

WTBT Volume 38 Series 2008...
We're taking bets that...
* the most shocking news of the week is Clay Aiken is gay.
* people should just try and get along.
* Daniel Radcliffe aka Harry Potter looks creepy on the cover of Details magazine.
* my brother looks a little like him with his hair spiked up.
* the retirement of Johnny Pesky's number is the best thing the Red Sox will do all year.
* this might be the worst criminal ever and he needs to understand a reacher really can't kill you when wielded by an elderly woman.
* you didn't know that thing was called a "reacher".
* the firing of Matt Millen is going to make the city of Detroit happy.
* sometimes self-confessed animal lovers are not ready for a real commitment.
* you didn't know there was piggerys.
* most men would love to be put on stud duty.
* the Mets could still blow it and not make the play-offs.
* sometimes stupidity and irony go to new levels of holy crap.
* if you say something inappropriate I am probably going to call you on it.

We're taking bets that Hottie of the Week...
In honor of the last game ever at Yankee Stadium I salute her. It was a great place to watch a game and even though I am a diehard Red Sox fan I am going to miss it. I was even at the 4th last game ever. Good bye Yankee Stadium you will be missed.

WTBT Volume 37 Series 2008...
We're taking bets that...
* SNL started off great, but really didn't carry the momentum throughout the show.
* the Tampa Bay/Boston series is going to be one of the most exciting of the year.
* sometimes you cannot go back and re-live your youth.
* Hurricane Ike really packed a wallop.
* it is fun to use the word wallop even in tragedy.
* this creeper didn't even try to scam these women.
* the Denver/San Diego game is why football is one of the best sports in the world.
* Ne-Yo's new album is awesome.
* anyone counting out the Patriots is making a big mistake.
* Scramble on Facebook is cool.
* it is a little bit scary on Wall Street right now.
* you don't care one bit about the Ryder Cup without Tiger Woods.
* it is weird that Jennifer Hudson is engaged to Punk from I Love New York 2 because she seems normal.
* UCONN Husky football is better than a lot of people thought they were going to be this year.

We're taking bets that Hottie of the Week...
Kadee Strickland of Private Practice and Tyler Perry's The Family that Preys is quite a hottie. She hasn't had a stellar career, but I think that she is starting to gain a little bit of momentum. To be thought highly enough to cast by Tyler Perry is quite a thing. She also has a wonderful smile. :)

WTBT Volume 36 Series 2008...
We're taking bets that...
* you should never run from the law or Residence Life.
* Sarah Palin might be the craziest person ever to run for national office.
* at the very least she gives Ross Perot a run for his money.
* I am going to start bringing sandwiches to work.
* K-Rod is never going to be the same after this year and all of his saves.
* some people will do anything for a good sucker.
* it is crazy how 7 years have passed since 9/11.
* you are looking forward to SNL this week.
* you can't wait to see who gets to be Sarah Palin.
* USC/Ohio State will be a blow-out.
* it better be a good weekend because it was a shitty week.
* when you don't post a lot people stop reading your blog.

We're taking bets some weeks you just encounter people with their bad idea jeans on...
It has been a long and trying week. I feel like I keep running into idiots all over the place. It reminds me of this old SNL commercial.

WTBT Volume 35 Series 2008...
We're taking bets that...
* the Toronto Subway is smellier than the one in New York.
* you are not sure if smellier is really a word.
* Dustin Pedroia should be the AL MVP.
* everybody dies in the end; just the once.
* maybe this guy was a liar liar and he deserved what he got.
* the Thunder is a weird name for the OKC basketball team.
* Rudy Guliani doesn't know what the hell he is talking about.
* the new 90210 was not too bad, but it wasn't great either.
* you can't lose your breasts when you are trying to steal something from someone.
* the trailer for Zach and Miri Make a Porno really excites me.
* the above statement sounds a little creepy.

We're taking bets that I have a few observations...
Here are a couple of my observations from the long Labor Day Weekend. I hope you enjoy.
* People love to run from me. In my job one of my roles I have to enforce policy and many time that means getting someone to dump their beer because they are under 21. This weekend I had a kid run from me. I am not supposed to chase him, but I radioed for help and we caught him. I know that I am a big guy, but I can run and someday I am going to chase someone down if for only to say that I did it.
* The Democratic National Convention was inspiring and kind of stupid all at the same time. It really was just blowhards talking to hear how important they are. Barack was excellent, but he did not make me feel confident that he will win the White House. I hope that the debates and the fact that Sarah Paulin was a bad choice for VP will help Obama/Biden win the White House.
* I am trying out Google's new web browser Chrome and I think it is cool so far. It is only the beta version so I think there is going to be a lot of improvements over the next few editions, but it works so far.
* Project Greg has started. More details to come. Hopefully it will be successful!!!

WTBT Volume 34 Series 2008...
We're taking bets that...
* Barack Obama really gave an inspiring speech last night.
* the Hungarians really can give a funeral.
* it's weird that athletes are still put on the Wheaties box because I don't know one person that eats Wheaties.
* John McCain probably angered a lot of old Republicans by choosing a woman for VP.
* Gustav is pretty scary for New Orleans and you hope the levees hold.
* you have to love and hate this idiot.
* seeing a friend avoid a car accident that wouldn't have been her fault by doing some awesome driving is pretty cool.
* you cannot believe that Michael Jackson is 50 years old today.
* I am very excited about College Football starting. GO HUSKIES!!!
* a telemarketer's revenge seems kind of dumb for they to do because that is the job.

We're taking bets that I just don't get Republicans...
Federally indicted Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens just won the Republican primary for his Senate Seat. Now I understand that an indictment does not mean that he is guilty, but just being indicted means something is wrong with you. Can't the Republicans in Alaska find someone else to stand behind. It makes no sense to me. Everyone deserves the right to be proven guilty or innocent, but if this guy is guilty and wins the election what happens next. Only the Republicans could muck this up.

WTBT Volume 33 Series 2008...
We're taking bets that...
* fall and hit your head was not number 102.
* Ted Kennedy might not be your favorite Kennedy, but he is a great speaker.
* you are a little bit excited about college football starting Thursday.
* the bishops wanted nun of this controversy.
* it is weird when who is going to be on Dancing with the Stars is bigger news that the Democratic National Convention.
* the Red Sox visiting the Bronx will not be quite the same after this year.
* you are excited about a fourth judge on American Idol that can put Simon and Paula in their places.
* sometimes pig jokes just get you in trouble.
* stories like this make me wonder how Ohio State can be considered such a great University.
* I love that their grandmother was defending their actions a little bit.
* you are really looking for your TV shows to start again.

We're taking bets that I have observed and thought...
Here are a few of my observations over the last few days.
* It seems to me that the more money you have the more you believe that rules and regulations do not apply to you. The University I work at has a lot of students whose parents have made a lot of money. Their expectations of what is allowed and what is not is very skewed. No you cannot park any where you want. Blocking a Fire Road is not allowed. Since you are not handicapped you cannot park in that handicap space. It really is ridiculous and this is just the parents. We wonder why rich people are considered snobs and their kids are brats. It is the parents fault.
* We will never see an Olympics quite like Beijing 2008. Michael Phelps and 8 gold medals, Bolt breaking two world records and not looking like he was even tired, the US basketball dream teams, US track failures too numerous to mention, Japan beating the US in softball and China putting on the most impressive opening ever. It was quite an Olympics and if you didn't watch anything I am sorry you missed it.
* Stupidity comes in many sizes and places. In my own backyard of New Haven stupidity has taken on a new level. The Youth Baseball League of New Haven has banned a 9 year old from pitching because he is too good. He throws 40 mph and is accurate. Some of the parents complained that their children were scared. When I faced Gary Burnham (who currently plays minor league baseball) I was scared everytime I faced him, but I didn't complain. The kid was a freak of nature with a rocket arm. How can you do this to a 9 yr. old kid? I am glad his parents are meeting with a lawyer and I hope they win because to be the best you have to play the best. Every kid not getting to face Jericho Scott is being robbed of his chance to make contact and get a hit. Adversity and greatness should never stop us from trying and these bozos have ruined the great sport of children's baseball.

WTBT Volume 32 Series 2008...
We're taking bets that...
* some people have no patience.
* Japan beating US softball was bigger than the Red Sox beating the Yankees in '04.
* maybe it is not, but it is close.
* government does hurt the little people and their businesses.
* that article makes me ashamed to share a first name with this imbecile, but thank God he is a three "G" freak.
* NFLPA lost a great man in Gene Upshaw.
* the creepy letters being sent to McCain's campaign are weird.
* the US track relay teams should invest in some stickum for their hands.
* you should never mess with the public library.
* House Bunny does not even look a little bit funny, but Katherine McPhee looks hot.
