We're taking bets that you were defined by something...

Hello WTBT readers!!! I hope that Spring is treating you well. Northern New England may be getting some more snow while it looks like rain for the next five days here in Southern New England. Man I miss Florida and it's nice weather. Well I have a distraction for all of you not in good weather currently. Thursday's questions!!! I hope you enjoy and invite others to join!! Have fun!

A. What event do you feel defined your childhood? (Like the attack of Pearl Harbor defined people from age 70 and older)

B. What experience or event defines you now?

C. What 3 things do you think of when you think "spectacular"?

Answers:

A. For me it has to be the explosion of the Challenger. Back then everyone watched the shuttle being launched and school came to a standstill when it exploded. It seemed like it was a big joke or we were all dreaming. It was the first realization that we had as kids that bad things really happen in real life.

B. My first job and meeting my students. I knew at that moment I was meant to work with college students and would for the rest of my life.

C. Beach Sunset
Fenway Park
Full Moon on a clear night

1. I'm with you on the Challenger explosion... it's all I really remember as a kid. Well, and the Berlin wall coming down. I remember watching that, too.

2. My defining moments now are the birth of each one of my children. As far as events happening, I was in the hospital after just having had Matt when Columbine happened and I remember being mortified. Also, the Waco standoff and the obvious World Trade center thing. It's the thing for our generation that our kids will ask, "where were you and how did you react when...." much like I asked my parents if they remembered Kennedy being shot and how they heard about it.

3. Spectacular.... the word makes me think of fireworks right off the bat. I am comforted by fireworks for a strange and disturbing reason. I believe that I was a soldier in Vietnam in a past life and hearing fireworks reminds me of the sick peace that must have been heard back then, the sounds of bombs dropping and gunfire in the distance. I'm strange.

The word spectacular also makes me think of large fires... the kind that people just stand silently and stare at because they are just too big and frightening to comment on.

And finally, watching something come plummeting towards the earth, like a meteor or something.

I don't know why these are the first things to pop into my head when I hear the word...lol.

A. It's not a major historical event, but my father's drinking. The fight between trying to survive and trying to remain a child was hard. When Challenger happened, I already knew that bad things could happen, and actually, it made it easier to relate to other kids that week.

B. This one's hard because there are so many from the last 10 years, but if I had to pick one it would be the whole divorce/Jamie thing. I know it's not technically one, but it kind of is.

C. Sun streaming through very tall trees.

God rays

A crisp blue sky against brightly colored leaves in the fall on a hilly landscape.

A. Oh man... I hate to admit this, but I would have to say the OJ Trial and subsequent verdict announcement. That was my Freshman year of high school I believe, and there were TV's all over the place when the verdict was read. Classes emptied out into the hallways. For me, I think it's the marking event where I realized that our country did not get "awed" by much anymore and rather became enthralled in the lives of public figures. Soon after that were things like the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal, etc. etc. etc.

B. The experience or event that defines me now is definitely the day that Steve proposed. Ever since then, it's been planning a wedding and realizing that I really am going to be someone's wife, eventually a mother, and as a result of those things the head of a household. It's all kind of overwhelming and exciting at the same time. :)

C. Three things, eh... Hrmm...
1. The ocean. It can be so calming yet so violent.
2. God.
3. Fireworks at Walt Disney World.

Mica - Don't worry you aren't dating yourself you are dating others and we all hate you for it. :)

Danielle - Very well written about the Steve proposal.

A. The Gulf War because actually seeing stuff happening live made me feel more vulnerable.

B. Wow, my answer is very much the same as Danielle's. The moment I became an engaged woman, I couldn't believe how much that was going to change the dynamics of my life. Only a few more months of planning...

C. Meteor showers, waterfalls and The Great Wall of China (I was lucky enough to visit it twice).
