We're taking bets that I wanna be like Joe Pa when I grow up...

Penn State Head Football Coach Joe Paterno is 78 years old and still going strong. His team is ranked 6th in the country and no one is asking him to retire. He plans on coaching at least another four or five years as long as his health holds up. What truly is incredible is that he can still relate to college students today. Top recruits still want to play for a man that easily could be their great grandfather.

Joe is one of a dying breed of coach. He has coached Penn State for 40 years and been with the school for 55 years. It became his home and he never wanted to go anywhere else. He met his wife(13 years his junior) there and has been married to her for 43 years. Coaches today don't look to stay at a school, but rather find the next best opportunity. Money is usually the deciding factor. Although Joe was offered many opportunities for more money he never left because he loved Happy Valley, PA. I just hope that I am as vibrant and able to work like Joe Pa at 78 years old.

"Losing a game is heartbreaking. Losing your sense of excellence or worth is a tragedy."
- Joe Paterno
